We have a good understanding of the music recording industry and the processes involved in recording mixing and editing. We have a good grasp on what goes on in live touring audio. Mastering is not a mystery and the world of TV and film is not a secret… but what about AAA games?
A world of specialist techniques, coding and software not found anywhere else in the audio world – but also a world fiercely protected behind the wall of nondisclosure agreements. In this presentation AES Scotland has managed to persuade some elves to knock out a couple of bricks in the wall and let us join a conversation on the other side…

Dr Jessica Argo is the Programme Leader of the BDes Sound for Moving Image Programme at Glasgow School of Art’s School of Simulation & Visualisation. Beyond the GSA, Jessica is passionate about public outreach for art and science, speaking at TEDx, the Glasgow Science Festival and Sonica. Jessica is an immersive installation artist, previously mixing live experimental video in dance clubs and white cube galleries.
Alexander Horowitz is a game audio specialist and composer based in the South-East of England. He is the Audio Lead at Studio Gobo in Hove, working on the upcoming Warner Bros title, Hogwarts Legacy. Alexander was previously Head of Audio at Andy Serkis’ Imaginarium in London and has worked on well-known AAA games including Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V: Online, and Madden NFL 17.
